JDF Racing's Shane Faber gets backing from Ash Honda Group.
Yeovil based Ash Honda Group are supporting teenager Shane Faber in his quest to move up the ladder in his sport of Motorcycle track racing.
Faber from Henstridge has been racing since he was ten years of age and is progressing quickly. Learning the basic racecraft on 70cc machines over the past three seasons he has performed well on the Spanish made Metrakit machines on kart tracks.
For 2014 he has moved to the next rung of the ladder and will be competing in the Aprilia Superteen Challenge. The series supported by Aprilia UK has helped UK riders move forward in their formative racing careers. Two British current stars in Moto GP Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith competed in the series, Crutchlow gaining the title in 2001.
Faber has his sights set on competing with other young European riders as soon as possible. A recently formed series the Moriwaki Junior Cup is a nine round series that runs on most of the top European circuits pitting the young riders against each other on state of the art machines that are similar to the World Championship Moto 3 series. The series was created and is managed by World Superbike title winners and World Supersport team Ten Kate of the Netherlands in conjunction with partners Japanese tuners and frame builders Moriwaki and engine supplier Honda.
Dylan Faber, Shane’s Father said, "We were looking at the series last year with a view to putting Shane out as a one-off entry Wild Card to ascertain his level of competitiveness. We know that the serious competitors in the series are allowed to purchase one of the race machines to practise on at their home tracks, and discussing Shane’s career over the next couple of years or so, Ron Hazel of Ash Honda offered to buy a bike for Shane. I was bowled over by the offer. We plan to get Shane out on the bike shortly in readiness for the Wild Card ride in the Junior Cup, which has been held in October on the famous Assen TT Grand Prix course. John Davies of JDF Racing went over to Holland in November last year and negotiated a deal with Ten Kate for a Junior Cup bike and spares package, we cannot thank Ron enough!"
Ron Hazel of Ash Honda group. "We were aware of Shanes’s progress and the move to the Junior Cup with Honda powered race machines interested us from the connection to Honda. We are only too pleased to help a local rider move onwards and upwards!"
