JDF Racing's Ben Luxton takes Championship lead at Snetterton
Following on from his impressive form at the second round of the series at Donington Park, Ben Luxton left the third round venue at the fast Snetterton circuit with a 29 point lead over Wigan rider Will Hodgson. Setting a pole position time of 1:18.790, 0.339 sec under the lap record set by Tom Oliver in 2012, Luxton secured his second pole slot in a row.
Race one was a re-run of the battles with Will Hodgson from Donington with the lead being contested almost every corner initially by a group of six riders but by lap five of the race Luxton and Hodgson had broken the tow and created a gap of three seconds between themselves and Lewis Rollo, Alex Baker, Sam Wilford and Louis Dawson. This gap was further increased to over six seconds at the flag, Will Hodgson taking the win from Ben Luxton by 0.082 of a second setting the scene for the week-ends entertainment.
The second race of the weekend saw Lewis Rollo take a well earned win taking the flag 0.097 ahead of Ben Luxton with Sam Wilford close behind setting a new lap record of 1:18009 Rollo and Hodgson setting fastest lap times close to Sam Wilford’s record lap.
The Monday races looked set for another monster battle between the top six riders which indeed it was. Timed at over 138 mph at the superfast track the level of confidence they have in each other’s riding ability belies the age of the riders, most of them still in their teens, never more than literally millimetres apart in some instances it was going to be a great spectacle for the cameras.
Having dropped to fourth place on the grid due to the Mega laps system, Luxton was going to have to work hard if he was going to finish in the top three. Sam Wilford got a cracking start as the new pole sitter leading the pack for the first two laps. Will Hodgson took over the lead on the third lap with Luxton in third place. Taking up the running on lap four he maintained that position to take the win by 1.6 secs from Alex Baker who set the fastest lap of the race at 1:18.442.
The final race of the day was down to the RRV 450 series and with a slight drop in temperature it was going to be an interesting race. Ben took his second win of the weekend by 1.67 secs from Midlander Louis Dawson with Alex Baker in third spot. Fastest lap set by Will Hodgson at 1:18.083 who took a tumble on lap eight of the ten lap race.
The series moves to the highly technical track of Cadwell Park on 25th/26th May.
