JDF Racing's Ben Luxton secures third place in Aprilia RRV450 Challenge 2013.
At the final round of the Championship, JDF Racing's rider Ben Luxton secured third place in the series over the weekend of 26/27 October at Donington Park.
Held on the Grand Prix track at Donington Park JDF rider Luxton continued his run of form with four runner-up spots behind 2013 RRV Champion David Allingham. After a solid qualifying session on the Saturday qualifying in third position with Ross Twyman in second spot, and Allingham on pole.
From P3 on the grid Luxton was again in a position to take the fight to on form Allingham. The races on the Saturday resulted in two second places behind David Allingham to take third place overall in the series.
In race one on Sunday Allingham and Luxton pulled away from the rest of the field to cross the line almost 11 seconds ahead of third placed man Ross Twyman. Ben Luxton was just 0.109 seconds behind Allingham and recorded the fastest lap of the race at 1:41.947 - just one tenth slower than the lap record set by Allingham the day before at 1:41.882.
Race two of the RRV 450 Championship was the final race of the 2013 ThundersportGB series. In lowering temperatures the notorious Craner Curve was going to be a Challenge to the young riders. Allingham got off to his usual fast start but Ben Luxton was in no mood to let the Northern Irishman get away without a fight. Spectators and remaining riders in the paddock witnessed a fantastic duel between the two eighteen year old riders from the first to the final lap of the seven lap race. Harassing Allingham at every opportunity Luxton was pushing himself hard to put Allingham under pressure to find a weak spot that he could exploit.
It was clear however why David Allingham was the 2013 Champion as despite the pressure from the Ben he held his ground. By the penultimate lap Luxton was within two metres of Allingham’s back wheel. To achieve this, Luxton broke the lap record set by Allingham taking it to 1:41.787, an impressive lap in the conditions. Running out of corners Luxton closed up on Allingham into the Melbourne loop getting good drive out of the corner toward the final one of Goddard’s it was going to be anyone’s guess. Allingham kept his nose in front to win the race by just 0.131 of a second.
Luxton said after the race "Nice to get the lap record at one of my favourite circuits however I want the win. David was stronger from Redgate, through Craner to the old hairpin, I was a bit stronger on the reminder of the track particularly through Foggy Esses, Melbourne loop, and Goddard’s, a great finish to the Championship though!"
Ben Luxton will be riding again for JDF in the Aprilia RRV 450 series in 2014.
