Sam Smith makes it a double at Mallory.
The West Sussex youngster Sam Smith was in impressive form for JDF-Racing at the final round of the Aprilia Superteen Challenge held at Mallory Park.
On his debut on the JDF-Aprilia machine Sam qualified in fifth place on the grid. By the end of lap one he had moved to third place behind Lewis Rollo with Brad Perie leading. By lap three of the race Smith had passed Perie and 2012 Champion Rollo to take the lead. By the last lap Rollo had made a charge but could not make a pass at the hairpin stick and Smith won the race by a narrow margin of 0.111 of a second.
Race two held on a damp track with a drying line Smith repeated his earlier performance with an emphatic win over Rollo. Never troubled throughout the race Smith took command on lap two of the 10 lap race to lead Rollo over the line by over a second. Smith said "I could see the gap on my pit board increasing by half a second a lap over the first two thirds of the race so I eased up a bit. It is the first time I have used a pit board and it was brilliant!" said the talented youngster.
The cold track conditions on the first race on the Sunday caught a few riders out on the first lap at Edwina’s chicane and the Hairpin, Smith being one of them. The final race of the year showed Sam could put in a podium performance on a dry track by taking the final podium slot in third place.
Dad Andy said "I am pleased with Sam’s performances over the week end. He has had a mixed season but when John Davies of JDF Racing offered Sam a test meeting on his bike, I was very pleased as he is regarded as one of the top men in the UK for developing young riders. It confirmed a few things for the family".
