JDF Racing's Cal Cooper and Ryan McAdam sparkle at Mallory Park.
JDF Racing’s Cal Cooper, from Ramsey in the Isle of Man, continues to lead Thundersports’ Aprilia RRV450GP championship after a series spectacular races at Mallory Park at the weekend.
The lanky 15 year old, a former British MX champion, didn’t manage the top spot on the podium following his clean sweep at Donington, but was never far off the sharp end of the action.
Cooper went 5-3-6-4 in racing that at times had spectators gasping at the skill and passion of the pilots, particularly in the last encounter where Edwina’s chicane proved to be a riveting watch.
Rounds five and six of the title series were fought out in shocking conditions at times, the morning races generally enjoying a dry track, but thereinafter it was cold and very wet with hail occasionally adding to the difficulties.
Wet tyres were a must in the afternoons but with the track showing glimpses of a dry line at times, the speed of the 450 boys barely let up and as one sage observer commented: ‘It’ll not be as hard to win the MotoGP Championship.’
Cooper, second in qualifying by just 0.024, experienced a few set up niggles but dug deep and rode consistently to keep himself well in the frame for when the series moves to Oulton next month.
Second in qualifying for the Supertwins races, Cooper went 5-2-4-3, the racing again being tremendously close and thrilling.
Said Cal: "A big thank you again to John Davies of JDF Racing and my mechanic Dave Hewitt. They worked hard all weekend to get things right. Roll on Oulton."
JDF Racing's rider, Ryan McAdam, had his best weekend yet at the latest round of Thundersport GB. Ryan, 17, who races in the Aprilia Superteen Challenge, had a successful weekend at the Mallory Park circuit, finishing 12th, 10th, 9th & 9th.
McAdam started racing at the start of the 2011 season, jumping straight in to the Aprilia Superteen Challenge. A few rounds in to the season, John Davies & Ryan started speaking about the possibility of working together, and shortly after agreed for Ryan to race for JDF Racing for the remainder of the 2011 & 2012 season. Ryan will also test the Aprilia RRV450, with a view to racing in the Aprilia RRV450 Challenge next season.
